Aeration

Lawn Aeration Service

What is a lawn aeration?

To put it simply, aerating is the process of making finger sized holes in a lawn and depositing the removed material on the surface to break down.  Creating these holes in the ground allows for water, air, and nutrients to get down to the roots  where healthy grass originates.  An aeration is often accompanied with an over-seeding service, we recommend adding an over-seeding to your aeration to get the most out of your lawn!

How do I know if my yard needs aeration?

If your property sees heavy traffic, consists of clay soils, has more than 1/2” of thatch, has standing water after irrigation or rain, or lawns that brown easily in heat are all great candidates.  Nonetheless, healthy or not, every lawn can benefit from an annual aeration, and troubled lawns can greatly benefit from a semi annual service.

When can I have my lawn aerated?

We see our best results aerating lawns in the early spring time (March-April) and once the summer heat breaks at the end of August through early October.  Never should a lawn be aerated in peak summer, exposing the root system to the heat can harm the grass, increase water evaporation, and invite weeds to the property.

Is aerating effective for all types of grass?

Yes, both cool season grasses including Kentucky Bluegrass and Fescue along with warm season grasses such as Zoysia both benefit from reducing soil compaction and improving turf nutrient absorption.
